Yoga is a journey of self-discovery and healing. I work all levels to awaken, strengthen and discover the physical, mental and spiritual benefits to heal from post traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. Every person deserves the holistic benefits of yoga as a practical tool of empowerment, self-soothing, self-healing, and coping. I work with individuals and small groups and would be honored to hold a safe space of befriending the body, connecting the mind and embracing the spirit within us on mental and physical level.
I am trained in Ashtanga, Vinaysa, and Hatha also teaching Restorative yoga. I am also a Reiki practitioner in which I provide a trauma non-touch environment to offer clients a safe space to connect with their body and balance their energy. I also use mindfulness meditation, aromatherapy, and yoga nidra techniques in my public classes and private sessions.
I have over 500 hours of yoga training. I was trained in Costa Rica with Nosara Yoga Institute, in Guatemala with School Yoga Institute and Yoga Now Chicago with Veterans Yoga Project, Chicago School of Yoga and Chicago at Yogaview with with teachers Alana Greenberg, Dr. Dan Libby, Anita Sundaram, Greg Fawley, Pattabhi Jois, Molly Boeder Harris, Founder of The Breathe Network and Street Yoga. I am beyond grateful for the knowledge, wisdom and love I have received through my trainings and teachers who have guided me to where I am.
I have taught in Guatemala, Nicaragua and the U.S. I continue to explore and teach around the world. I believe everyone deserves the access and opportunity to explore their own yoga practice.
Trauma Sensitive Yoga
What is known as Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD) is actually a body-mind experience of symptoms stemming from the frozen residue of energy-that has not been fully resolved or discharged-due to feelings of helplessness, perceived or actual threat. This energy gets trapped in the nervous system.
Yoga practice allows a coming home to oneself. Practiced mindfully, it links movement, breath and attention to body sensation and offers great potential for healing.
There is a beauty to yoga; the grace in yoking of joining together with others in community and joining ourselves individually, to grow and create more peace and genuine healing. Yoga affords us the opportunity to see more clearly the struggle and hope for resolving symptoms.
Practicing yoga with an emphasis on cultivating the spirit of self-inquiry is medicine for effects of traumatic stress. The fundamental concept is that for transformation and healing to occur, we must begin within.
It is an honor to hold space for and witness someone else’s life-process. Through yoga teaching we can create conditions for awareness to be safely seen, valued, contained, nurtured, and understood. I would be honored to guide you in a private session or lead a group workshop to educate others in teaching and facility trauma-sensitive-yoga in their studios.
Beginners Yoga Flow
This class starts from a comfortable space on your mat. Slowly and mindfully, we build on a seated or lying down space to open the body your body. It then moves to seated postures and then to standing, as we begin to string it all together in a flow. This class is about befriending and having fun with the rhythm of your body. This class will introduce breathing and meditation techniques.
Vinaysa Heart Opening Flow
A heart-centered practice with strong intentions of self-care and compassion. We will practice befriending all elements of the self with a soft asana experience. This class offers a varied combination of longer holds, active lengthening, and abundant heart openers to encourage a deeper relationship to the self. Focusing on opening the heart center, this medium pace flow will energize you and also keep you mindful of your breath allow you to flow organically with your body.
Yoga For Depression & Anxiety
Emotional and mental issues, be it stress, depression, or anxiety are often the result of long-term tension patterns, which create blockages in our energy flow. Yoga can help create greater emotional well-being by releasing tension and dissolving the emotional blocks that hold us back from living a happy, healthy life. A regular yoga therapy practice over the long term can be a powerful tool for emotional healing and integration. This is a practice of compassion that creates a big enough container to embrace and accept all the dualities of mood. The practice is adapted to the student so each individual can move into a balanced emotional, mental, and physical state of equanimity and self-awareness.
Hatha Chakra Balancing Flow
Balance all of your energy centers with a creative integration of yoga poses, breath practice, mindfulness meditation, sound therapy, and aromatherapy.
Restorative Relaxation Yoga
This class focuses on slowing down the body and relaxing the mind. You will hold gentle poses in a safe supported environment for up to 10 minutes. You will start off with breath meditation as we slowly transition into the heart opening postures to help restore the body and mind.
Rates: Sliding scale $25-40 for a 60 minute private session. $12 per student for group class or session (minimum 2 people).
